INFO
11/11/11 - Does it make sense to call it a "Laptop"?
Above
image shows how a laptop is supposed to be used (on top of a lap).
However, it is wise to place a layer of protection (like woman in
picture did) between your lap and the laptop computer. See
toasted skin syndrome.
Lap-Top Computer They call it a "laptop" for good
reason. I believe the original idea was to create a portable
computing device that could be used comfortably in most settings.
Humans like to sit down when working on intellectual things like
academics, computer programming, engineering, design, art,
literature, etc. When you sit down you create something special
called a "lap". It doesn't mater whether you're at a coffee shop,
shopping mall, airport, library, school, or lounging at home on your
sofa. Some of these places have desk tops or table tops to place a
computer, but many do not. That leaves only one option for the
portable computer. Your lap. It's very logical to refer to a
portable computer as a "Laptop".

New Laptop Cooler Logo in PNG format PNG or
Portable Network Graphics is a
great format for logo
art and computer graphics in general. PNG uses "loseless" data
compression so that your graphics retain all or most of their color
and detail. The drawback to PNG is that the files can get large when
used for photos. I typically use JPG or
JPEG for any
graphics that have large amounts of photographic components in their
overall composition. It usually comes down to a debate of image
quality verses file size. PNG also has a very nice transparency
feature that makes it a flexible format for a wide variety of
graphics projects.

DO YOU REMEMBER TOASTED LEG SYNDROME?
Have you ever heard of
Toasted Leg Syndrome or Toasted Skin Syndrome?
There was a big
press release on the subject back in October of 2010 and the
question I'm trying to figure out is how many people remember
hearing about the syndrome. Click on the following
link to answer a simple one question online poll. It takes about 5
seconds to complete.

HOT SPOTS ON THE BOTTOM OF YOUR LAPTOP
Hot Spots on the Bottom of Your Laptop The general
rule is that as a byproduct, all electronic components generate heat
to some degree. The typical modern day
laptop has
several main components that all generate heat creating
hot spots on the
bottom of your laptop. The usual hot spots include the CPU, Video or
Graphics Card,
Hard Drive, CD-ROM or DVD Drive, and even the
laptop battery
generates heat. And therein lies the best reason to get a 4 Fan
Laptop Cooler like the QuadCooler, because a cooler like this
provides
balanced cooling
to all the hot spots on the bottom of your laptop or notebook
computer.
THOUGHTS ON THE WORD "LAPTOP"
The word "laptop" has become such a common word that I think most
people instantly picture a portable computer when they hear the
word, but I don't think most people necessarily think about the
"lap" + "top" original meaning of the word. Yes, I know people still
use laptops on their laps, but the point I'm trying to make is about
the image or idea that pops into your head when you hear or see the
word "laptop". For me and most people I ask, the first idea/image
that comes to mind is a small rectangular, smoke grey or silver,
plastic, fold-able, computer. In other words, the actual
"lap top"
part is not the first thing I think about. I guess my point is that
maybe they should be called something that is more closely related
to the image that pops in our head. For example, maybe we should
have called them "fold-able computers". All in all, I think "laptop"
is a good word, I just think it is interesting to think about how
words evolve over time to have a whole new meaning of their own.
Laptop Bliss -
Bliss means happiness. Laptops don't have
emotions, but if they did, they would probably be much happier with
a nice laptop cooler keeping their
heat engines
under control. QuadCooler has a new cartoon page dedicated to Laptop
Bliss. Check it out and tell us what you think. And don't forget to
ask the Question, "Is my laptop happy?".
SIMPLE LAPTOP HEAT DIAGRAM
Laptops and Heat -
The above diagram is simple but
effective. It emphasises the fact that laptops generate heat which
can make your lap uncomfortable especially during the summer months.
It also underscores the need for a
laptop cooler.
THE RULE ON LAPTOPS AND CARPET
The above diagram shows the dangers of using a
laptop unprotected on top of carpet.

cooler
How exactly does a laptop cooler work?
- Well, it's actually pretty simple. The first
step a laptop cooler does is to provide an air gap between the
laptop and the cooler. This helps the internal cooling system of the
laptop to function better. Every laptop comes with its own cooling
system that usually consists of a fan and some air ducts. It is
critical for the laptop to have an air gap below the cooling system
in order to dump all the hot air out and away from the computer. The
second step a laptop cooler performs is the function of creating its
own air flow to help the internal fans get rid of even more hot air.
The cooler fans are usually powered by either an AC adapter or by
the laptop via a special USB cable.
